Google Cardboard:
"Holy shit," a classmate who will remain nameless uttered under their breath once they engaged with the virtual reality street view app on Google Cardboard. I was hesitant to try it at first because, well, it's a cell phone surrounded by cardboard. I was dizzy at first (not sure why) and the cardboard did hurt the bridge of my nose. I had to press down somewhat so my eyes could adjust properly. Although the cardboard doesn't provide 100% concealment around the eyes and nose like other VR sets, it still provided the VR experience fully. The graphics were adequate enough and there wasn't any sound but that didn't seem to really create a problem for the experience. A con was not being able to interact with the environment. I thought it was neat for tourism. Another con was that "Windy Day" did not/would not align with my eyes and I couldn't correct it, so my brain was trying to choose to view my right eye's image or my left eye's image and couldn't consolidate the two.
Samsung Gear:
"Bizarre, weird" could be used to describe this experience or these terms could be used to describe just the Cirque du Soleil experience. This was my favorite one because it was comfortable and the graphics were pretty amazing. The sound definitely heightened the feeling of "being present." And they need to be amazing for something like Cirque du Soleil. I didn't realize it was a Samsung phone inside the device... Now I'm considering abandoning team Iphone...
Oculus Rift DK 1:
This was the clunkiest looking device. I didn't like that I couldn't turn my head all the way but at least we got to move within the universe. The gear itself isn't a good a fit as DK 2 and the graphics are poorer. They reminded me of the 007 game on Nintendo 64 and that did the job. In order the spin around, like I am apt to do in Virtual Reality apparently, you need more mouse control. That was a little uncomfortable because I needed to be guided to the mouse and to the arrow keys.
Oculus Rift DK 2:
I had used the Oculus Rift Developer Kit 2 before which I remember made me dizzy at first. Once I got used to moving around and adjusted the headgear properly for my face, it took me away to another world. The gear did feel a little "heavy" if not clunky because of the wires. Being surrounded by graphics, my first instincts are to turn all the way around from both directions which the kit doesn't really allow. It's not as clunky as the DK 1 and the graphics are incredibly better.
Experience I want to try:
I love horror/thrillers so I would love to experience Affected on the Oculus Rift. I'm also interested in Foreign_Nature because sci-fi films/shows really transport people to another world and to be able to experience that or any resemblance to it in virtual reality would be amazing.
