SU Soccer 360 video proposal

For our first 360 video project, I propose that we record a Syracuse Soccer game at SU Soccer Stadium.
Now, I know what you're thinking: If you're going to do an event, especially a sport, why not record a much more accessible one, with a recognizable arena, like a football game in the Carrier Dome? Well, the unfortunate thing about that is press access, which is much, much harder to get for a football game. There are way more people attending a football game than any other Syracuse sport (even basketball), and that means more press. Just about any organization can gain access to a soccer game, and it should be possible through my contacts at CitrusTV.
For this project, we would place the camera on either sideline of the field, whichever we as a team decide is the best spot. Personally, I think that somewhere in the corner would be good, as it allows easy viewing of fans, the teams, and of course the game. This location is also dependent on where they actually let us put the camera of course. Although the games are usually at night, the stadium is pretty bright and the actual lighting of the video should not be a problem.
With the advent of 360 videos becoming more and more relevant and accessible, many major media corporations are looking to capitalize on the technology, and sports is no different. There are drones that fly above NFL games, with only sound from the stadium, giving the viewer a unique perspective. When I showed my friend, he said "it's like you're actually at the game!". This past summer, NBC Sports did some VR demonstrations with cameras in Rio to test out the possibilities of streaming the Olympics in VR. I even saw a job listing for a 360 video sports producer for ESPN not too long ago. I think that sports in general are a fantastic application of VR. It allows us to look around in between plays and on commercial breaks, and find things that the broadcast viewing would not allow us to see. We can tell our own little stories about the teams, players, and fans.
