Flavin- Things were better this time

Flavin- Things were better this time

Compared to the previous assignment, I'd say that this one, Assignment 4, went surprisingly well.  In class, I was able to save time by using the class time available for working, under professor supervision, to create a character on Mixamo and then download that character into Unity.  The fact that I now have Unity and Playmaker on my laptop also saved time.  The process of downloading my Mixamo character, Pearl, onto my laptop was quick and easy.  Once I could see the character within my Unity landscape (although her face made her look like a zombie), I turned to the video tutorials available on our class' website (www.vrstorytelling.org) and used two of them to animate Pearl.  The videos were very understandable and well-paced.  I didn't feel like I was being rushed or talked down to.  The box collider to get Pearl to do her movement, standing up from a squatting position, worked out.  Except that, when Pearl made her movement, she took one step forward, disappeared into the ground, and never came back up again.  This baffles me.  I don't know what commands I put in or the computer put in to make that happen.  Still, I achieved the goal, somewhat, of making her move when I, the first person controller, approached her.  After the disaster that was my Assignment 3, I feel much better about this one, Assignment 4.  Things were better this time around.  I am still in no way, shape, or form a VR creation expert.  But I know now that I don't have to go into panic mode when I don't understand something.  I have the videos to help me, along with my previous experience and my laptop tools.  I felt more relaxed with this assignment.  Now, I just need to transfer it from my laptop to the Newhouse server.  That particular part I might need some help with...
