In an orchestra setting, the podium is reserved for the conductor. Now with 360-degree cameras, anyone can be the baton-brandishing boss.
THE SCENE:
This would take place in the Crouse Castle performance hall. Right now, the concert band is practicing "Lux Aurumque" by Eric Whitacre. I envision our rig to capture a practice or a performance of this piece from the perspective of the conductor, who can see each musician up close.
LIGHTING
This scene will contain indoor lighting.
AUDIO
This scene requires an external Tascam to record audio.
If possible, this additionally would be an amazing project for 360-audio. Think about being able to look at a section of an orchestra and keenly hearing that section's part.
EXPERIENCE
The advantage of being in the conductor's spot is that our viewer can scan the band and feel what it's like to command a musical squad. A conductor is surrounded by musicians in a semi-circle. The audience is behind the conductor.
After the performance, the audience behind the conductor would applaud, creating a 180-degree experience. We would complete the 360-degree shot with an above shot of the organ that is located in the performance hall.
STORY DISCOVERY
The conductor perspective is a very rare place to stand, and no one is allowed to stand on the podium EXCEPT for the maestro during a performance. This 360-degree experience provides a unique perspective for viewers to experience what it's like to be in front of a band during a performance.
WHERE'S MY HEAD
The viewer's head will be at or near the conductor's range of sight.
SAFETY
The conductor and the camera operator need to make sure they don't collide!
