Newhouse Students’ 360 Videos

Students in the Newhouse school's VRStorytelling class have recently begun to shoot 360-degree videos that work with virtual reality headsets, including Google Cardboard.

If you have a Google Cardboard kit, here's how you can use it to view 360 videos. Note that this currently only works with an Android phone. If you have an iPhone you can view our 360 videos in standard 2 dimensions by opening them in the YouTube app and moving the phone around you.

One an Android phone:

  • Download the YouTube app in the Play store. If you already have YouTube installed, you may need to update it to the latest version.
  • Open any of the videos below and choose YouTube as the app to play them.
  • When you start to play the video, tap the icon at the lower right that looks like your cardboard viewer. This will cause the video to display in steroscopic view.
  • Slide your phone into your Cardboard viewer and look around.

On an iPhone:

  • You can load any of the videos below in your YouTube app, but it won't display in cardboard view yet. However, you can hold your phone up and sideways and move it around in front of your head to look around in 2D.

On a desktop or laptop:

  • Click and drag your mouse inside the video to change your perspective.

Here are the 360 videos we've published so far:
