Independent Learning – Meng Fu

I have several things to share from the c4d skills to unity tips. In the story of my project, there are some crumbled paper and a red dress lying on the ground. I can't find existing model in the assets store so I need to make it by myself. Both two things rely on c4d animations. The process of making models are kind of complicated but the tutorials are great so it should be fine if you follow the steps. I made a crumbled paper model just the same with the tutorial in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zJ4K-lhHBrU. For the dress, it was a little bit different. The tutorial only told me how to simulate cloth in c4d. But it didn't tell me how to make a dress exactly. So I did some creative things. I used a sphere as the cloth collider, and I created a big plane and gave it a cloth tag. Then I adjusted the timeline and  found a second that the shape of the plane turned like a dress. I don't think this is a perfect way but it works in my project. Sometimes it is important to try applying your skills to do something you don't grasp.  The tutorial about how to do cloth simulation is here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d0WOTkIPipU

I also found two skills during my process of working. Firstly, in Unity 3D, an object usually only can have one material. If you want to add more, you need to know how to write C# script and it is not very easy. But the good thing is that you can add a material in c4d and export it as fbx file and then you will get an object with two materials. Unfortunately I haven't experienced it in my project, however, I believe it is a feasible method.

Another thing I learned is how to make translucent material in Unity 3D.  I didn't find any tutorials about it but I found a way myself. It is really easy and effective. Just use Photoshop to make a translucent image (adjust the opacity as you want), and then export as PNG file. When you apply the image to the material of the object, select shader as fade. I used this method to simulate a mirror in my project. It is a combination by a translucent plane and a metal frame.

I feel it is really interesting to find a tutorial online for making some effects I want to have in my project. It maybe isn't a systematic learning process, but I enjoy learning things bits by bits and I believe one day I will be able to combine my skills and be proficient on Unity 3D.
