For my independent learning, instead of reading, I wanted to discuss my work with Mixamo and finding the tutorials that I posted to help other students add characters to their scenes.
I am so happy that when I was creating my third assignment I had such a burning desire to add an animated character to my scene, that I spent HOURS finding and looking through tutorials and websites to figure out how to do so. I found Mixamo and their extensive animation library on kind of a fluke. As I looked through I got more and more excited at the content available and it was for free, I couldn't believe it.
When I initially downloaded my characters and they didn't work with Playmaker, I was stuck. I wasn't sure what to do. But with some more research, I was able to find lengthy video tutorials of Mixamo Unity workflows, Unity animator and advanced mechanim animations to create sequences in Unity. Learning from these tutorials took me longer than my entire assignment, but in the end I think it was completely worth it. I was able to add to my scene a story element that previously was not being communicated.
I added the tutorials to the class blog to help other students in creating their own Mixamo characters and animations to better their future projects. I had numerous students thank me for going through the process of learning how to use Mixamo and finding the tutorials that made it easiest to learn - especially for the next assignment which was to use Mixamo characters in a scene!
