Assignment 3 – Koenig

After my first experience with Unity, I decided to go about creating my second one in a different way. Instead of finding assets in the store that I could somehow turn into a scene, I approached my scene with an idea - then had to find the assets that fit what I wanted to do. I knew I wanted to create a scene that had a lot of visual interest, was dark and required participation to interact with my PlayMaker component. I created a lake with choppy water, heavy rain,...

Daghir: Independent Learning Blog

For my independent learning experience, I learned how to use Rogo Digital's Lipsync, an external plugin for Unity (like Playmaker). This plugin allows you to sync an audio file with facial animations, allowing your characters to come to life with dialogue. The plugin has some issues and a bit of a learning curve, but it is very powerful and has excellent developer support. Lipsync works by mapping "phonemes," or specific sounds, to different facial movements. Sometimes, different sounds are produced by making the same mouth shape (i.e., M, B, and P...

Jennifer Li – Final + Independent Learning

A last minute change of plans made me completely rethink my final project. Originally I had proposed to do my final project on architecture thesis, but after reviewing what I needed for thesis and what I needed for this class, I found that there was no storytelling aspect in what I was doing for thesis. I am still excited to say that I am writing my senior thesis on virtual reality, and I have already created demos in unity to show to my critics, but I decided to...

Final Project

The final project was the most challenging assignment of the semester – as it should be. One of my greatest challenges for this assignment was conceptualizing a VR experience that I was passionate about and tied in with my advertising major. Initially, because of my love for fashion and retail, I wanted to create a VR shopping experience. However, after trying and failing and trying and failing, I scrapped the idea because I found I just didn’t have the skill set actually to create an interactive VR experience. Knowing that...

Independent Learning: Kevin Zsitvay

For my final project, I had to learn about Movie Textures. Movie Textures are very similar to normal textures. However, the texture is a video file that you can just simply drag on to an object such as a cube. This sounds easy and all, but it wasn't. I had pulled videos that I wanted to use in my Unity scene, 6 of them. All of the videos were ranging in size and quality. First attempt at dragging one of the videos into my assets, Unity crashed. The second attempt,...

Independent Learning: Kristen Powers

Kristen Powers Independent Learning Requirement: Unity Tutorial Throughout the semester I have been referring to Lynda.com and Youtube to help me with my Unity projects and to try to trouble shoot things that don't work. I completed the Unity 5: 3D Essential Training that you posted on to blackboard. It was for the most part helpful, but I actually found sometimes it went more in detail that I actually needed and it tended to confuse me a bit more. However, it was a great way to get to know the...

Independent Learning — “Ready Player One” — Caitlin Gillman

"Ready Player One" by Ernest Cline (SPOILER ALERTS) "Ready Player One" is a novel written in 2011 by Ernest Cline.  It is a science fiction and dystopian story about the future.  The book is set in the year 2044, where Earth is a very ugly place, overrun by overpopulation, unemployment, and energy shortages.  The main protagonist, eighteen-year-old Wade Watts, is a very poor young man who only feels alive when he's plugged inside the virtual reality utopia known as the OASIS. Like for most people living on Earth, the OASIS is a...

Sarconi: Independent Learning Blog

I used a series of 360 video Stitch tutorials to stitch together footage for both my final project and my drone flight over Pratts Falls. I was starting with no knowledge of how to use the software, so I watched this overview tutorial to get started. This helped me get a feel for how the software works and gave me a basic understanding of what to expect when using it. I then watched this tutorial on synchronization. This is an important part of making sure the 6 videos are lined...
