Joel Sherman Assignment 1

On Wednesday, I tried the Oculus Rift VR headset. I thought it was amazing. I’m not used to virtual reality, so I was dumbstruck by it. The film I saw was “Invasion.” “Invasion” is a short animated VR film where you are one of a pair of bunnies have to prevent an alien invasion. As an animated comedy, the film works. It’s funny, and is able to hold your attention. The film also works as a virtual reality experience. What I liked the most about “Invasion” was how immersive it...

Assignment 1: Yeagee Jung

This was my first experience really with any sort of VR technology. I found it to be a fascinating medium because of the way that the user could immerse themselves into the experience. I used the Oculus and the Samsung headset and I found both to be super interesting just because of the way that they differed. I felt that the Oculus really was a surrounding experience where I felt like I was put into that scenario, and the Samsung headset gave me more of a looking into somewhere from...

Assignment 1: Kyle Desiderio

Coming into this class, I’ve had some experience with 360 degree video in headsets (where you are static in a fixed area and can look around) but I’ve never experienced VR stories or games.  As a result, I first gravitated towards HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. Immediately, the feeling of being completely immersed in this fictional and decidedly not real world is extremely jarring.  Being immersed in this uncanny world, yet looking down and not being able to see your legs is a weird feeling to say the least.  For me, the most challenging...

Assignment 1 – VR Experience – Erin Qiu

I don't think I have many experience in VR before. I only watched many videos that are about VR and I’m always intrigued by this idea. The experience I had on Wednesday night in the lab was interesting and fun. I felt like I was in another world when I put the gear on and I even forgot about time when I played with the robot. The interaction with the robot was enjoyable. I really felt like playing with it as it handed me over all those different tapes. Moreover,...

Assignment 1 – VR experience- Samarth Sharma

My first ever, notable VR experience was when I was accepted by Johns Hopkins University for a graduate program in marketing. I received in mail, a package that had a Johns Hopkin’s cardboard, which enabled me to hook up my IPhone to the same and experience the campus virtually. It was a great marketing and public relations technique, I thought. I could see each classroom and the different buildings of the campus. Not only that, my inquisitiveness led me to explore the campuses of other universities, to which I had...

Photogrammetry (Using Google Maps/PhotoScanPro)

In many ways, this was the most exciting project for this class. It was certainly the most challenging. While my aims were higher early on, my accomplishments here feel fairly precipitous, given my previous experience. I managed to convert nearly 1200 photos (later 600, after an export took over 40 hours, then crashed) into a 3D model of Clinton Square. It was far from perfect. But it is mine. (And Google Maps. Thanks, all.) The model is viable to run on the HTC Vive. When I tried to put it...

Independent Learning – Groh

Over Thanksgiving break, I read Ready Player One. It's like a modern 1984. The book really is foreshadowing the potential of VR as it continues to become more pervasive in our society. The story follows teenager Wade as he plays a contest to gain the rights to the most lucrative and popular video game of all. The OASIS is a mixture of a role-playing game with aspects of social media. He has to win the contest before Innovative Online Industries can win and monetize the entire video game. What is so...

For my final project, I decided to capture a 360 VR video of a Women in Coding workshop. After looking at the video, I noticed how huge the tripod was holding the camera, and for some scenes I placed an external mic underneath the tripod to get better quality, so I didn't want people to see that in my video. I wanted to keep it as professional as possible. I started searching up how to make a nadir, since I have never used one before. I watched the video below...

The two primary tools that was useful to be throughout the semester was Adobe Premiere and Unity. As it was first time for me to use those tools, I did face many challenges using them.  Other than the class lectures, I learned a lot from the websites of each program vendors. For Unity, the Manual that was on the website helped me a lot. https://docs.unity3d.com/Manual/index.html Everything is categorized so that each topic is easy to be located, and it has detailed instructions with the screenshots of actual program.  Unity also...
