360 Video ft. the Sour Sitrus Society

Wow! What an amazing experience. The original idea was to get a perspective piece from the band conductor's point of view. At first, I was thinking we could go record the concert band in Crouse Auditorium (which is also very visually attractive). However, we chose to go hard or go home. So after multiple e-mail exchanges to get into the high-security Carrier Dome, I brought the rig to the Syracuse vs. Pitt basketball game on February 20th. We captured the band as they played the hype song while the Cuse...

Rosa – Assignment 5

My Project I love Unity. It's incredibly awesome. Ideas of scenes and movies that have lived in my head for twenty years have a possibility of actually existing. The potential for Unity is very high. It just takes finding the right models for the right price, or learning how to make them myself. The actual building process in Unity came pretty easily. Assembling pieces and set objects, as well as importing animations and sound from the Unity store isn't that different from importing files into Final Cut Pro or building...

Assignment 5 – First Unity Scene: HTC Vive and Basic Combat

For my first Unity scene I created a small medieval scene with the outside of a house and a small castle corridor. I ported it into the HTC Vive and scripted a simple melee system that works with the hand controllers.     Things that worked: For the most part, creating the actual scene in Unity was simple enough. I adjusted terrain and created a crater in which my scene took place so the player doesn't venture too far outside the scene. I found some free assets from the store...

Assignment 5 – Quin’s World

I really underestimated how long it would take to build a simple world in Unity. At first I had no clue what I wanted to build or where to start. I wanted to build something that I could actually see myself in. I remember the days when Sims was popular and I channeled that. I wanted to create something simple and represent a real community. For some reason I love the trees, even though in real life I'm not an outdoors person. My inner designer got the best of me...

First Unity Experience

After a battle of wills with technology, I have successfully completed assignment 5...and I have to say, it was a lot cooler and more rewarding than I ever thought it would be.  Just when I was finally starting to grasp 360 video, we were moving on to something else and I felt lost early on, having had no experience with Unity prior to this assignment.  I really enjoyed getting the hang of using the controls, and adding my own touch to the piece.  My only regret is that I was...

Assignment 5 – Why Aren’t There More Free Dinosaurs

Ah Unity, we meet again. During our first attempts at creating a Unity scene, I struggled with new ways to use the mac mouse, while maintaining a satisfying perspective to continue my work. I quickly fell behind during our step by step instruction, and left the class feeling frustrated. Determined to become more efficient at using Unity, I made sure to utilize the video tutorial (provided by our lovely professors) and took my time getting to know the program. In the same way that my younger self learned to play and create...

Assignment 5 – Let’s play with Unity

After working with my preferred medium (video), we've stepped into a world that is much more complicated and frustrating - building environments in Unity. Having played video games since I was small, the concept of building a 3D world isn't entirely foreign to me. I've messed around with The Sims and Halo's Forge mode, however I would always get frustrated when things wouldn't work exactly as I wanted. My experience with Unity was no exception. Trying to figure out why my colliders wouldn't work gave me headaches. Finding the right...

Assignment 5 – Marissa Blanchard

Hi everyone! I am extremely new to Unity and any type of development programs and coding. The biggest issue I faced was something that didn't come up in class and I didn't know how to tackle. I tried to enter game mode once I completed the assignment and noticed a warning, "All compiler errors must be fixed to enter game mode." I took to the Internet to help solve me problem. Nothing I did could fix the compiler error, but hopefully there is something you all can do to help...
