Here is our final project. A 360 dance video featuring Syracuse University's Outlaws Dance Troupe. Enjoy! Bria: Organized shoot Shot scenes alongside LaQuin Stitched first location LaQuin: Shot scenes alongside Bria Stitched second location Edited everything together in premiere We co-stitched the third location because it was giving us a lot of ghosting problems. We took turns trying to fix it. This was a fun experience and we think the video came out great.
My original intrigue to take this VR Storytelling class was to learn how I could use virtual reality in order to tell journalistic stories. As a broadcast journalist, I've had experience in learning how to tell a story through video, but I wanted to expand my technological knowledge in order to tell stories in a different way. The point of telling stories through journalism is to teach the public about something that they don't have knowledge on already. 360° filming offers a unique and immersive experience for the viewer into...
For my independent learning requirement I watched a series of videos from the making360 youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/fabiensoudiere/featured I specifically watched their stitching 360 video playlist. The videos went into deep detail (more advanced than my level) but it was very informative. Watching these video helped me figure out some things with regard to my final 360 video project. I was constantly putting a bunch of markers all over my screen, but learned that less is more (and works better). It showed me how to use the transform tools to move each...
This project is the culmination of a semester’s worth of work. I do not mean that I worked on it all semester. What I mean is, after six weeks of 360 shoots, VR demos, and messing around on the bleeding edge of the field with both software and hardware, I knew what I could do with the resources available to me. More importantly, I knew what I wanted to do with those limitations in mind. First, a little background to help you understand how this project was conceptualized: I am...
I have an interest in animated graphics and graphical enhancements to video files, so I used Lynda.com to take a basic “animated graphics in Adobe AfterEffects” course to create a title sequence for my final project. The video tutorial explained how the interface works (a combination of premiere and photoshop), how layering and formatting works, and then how to animate the images one places in the composition space. Afterwards, it teaches the user how to animate with a specific template, although I skipped that part and went straight to animating...
For my Independent Learning requirement I took a Lynda course called Level Design Basics in Unity. The course was exactly what the title suggests, and it was very helpful because, at least to me, one of the hardest things about Unity is figuring out the basic stuff. Most of the time I know what I want to do I just don't know where to find the thing or what to change, and once I learn the basics I can play around and put the concepts together, but if the basics...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2bs1cY-fKO8&feature=youtu.be For my final project I created a virtual maze that you can run through. It turned out pretty well, but the concept I had in my head before making it was a lot different than what I ended up with. Part of the reason for that is because a lot of the things I wanted to do I could not figure out how to do in Unity so I had to do some audibles. I wanted to make it where you would run through the maze and you...
I came into this class wanting to look at how VR can be used for educational purposes. For this project, I interviewed Stephen O'Mahony, the Education Community Manager at Blippar. While Blippar currently does their education work in AR, I thought it would be interesting to learn more about that area. We mainly focused on VR in class, but now with the HoloLens, I feel like AR will become an important topic as well. This quote provides a nice introduction to the focus of Blippar for Education: “We believe that...
By Juli Whetstone For my independent learning requirement I completed the Unity 5: 3D Essential Training Course on Lynda.com. It was extremely helpful to do while completing my final project. Even after our class assignments in Unity, I still felt uncomfortable using the program. This course helped me learn more about how things worked and just review the basics. It was nice because it started from the very beginning with just setting up a project. It was particularly useful for learning about working with particle systems because that is...
Our project is the 360 video of dance performance by Syracuse City Ballet on April 12th. We only had one time opportunity so we borrowed two 360 cameras. However, all six gopros of one camera were all out of battery when we checked the equipment. We had to charge them all as soon as possible. During the shooting, we tried to get to the stage as close as we could, but the staff didn’t allow us to do so. We tried different angles to get better frames. Another problem is...
