Assignment 4- Luke Casino

Link to video: https://youtu.be/8oFA42Re6q8  One of the biggest and most noticeable improvements that we made to our video were the facts about how alcohol impacts university students. We placed these at the end of the video on a black screen to allow the viewer to read them without any other distractions. I thought this was cool to do as it made the video into an interesting new kind of PSA from an idea that was initially just meant to be funny. Although other group members did the research, this was one of the...

Ben Farr Independent Learning: Photogrammetry

Ever since our class last semester got to skype in with the guy who did photogrammetry, I've been thinking about a million different applications that that tech could have. When it came time to work on my final project, I wanted try my hand at using it. A little bit of Background on me. I'm a Boy Scout certified ecology/conservation director during my summers. One of the largest parts of my job at my camp is teaching about the flora through their leaves. My most valuable teaching tool is passing...

Final Project Ben Farr

At the start of this project I set out to create a virtual reality map of the summer camp I work with 3D scans of leaves and explainers scattered throughout to help VRnauts learn about trees. It was ambitious and, as I quickly found out, impossible to do without an actual structure scanner or internet access. I scrapped the location and decided instead to set my project in Thornden park, much closer to the innovation lab and wifi. My project had four stages after the change of scenery: collecting...

Assignment 1: VR Experience – Claudia Articek

Before I came to Syracuse I wanted to be enrolled in the VR Storytelling course because I have worked in the past with the technology and with the way stories should be told. I never did a combination of both. Unfortunately, every seat in this course was taken at the time I send my class choices to Newhouse. A week after classes began, my schedule advisor called me to say that there was some movement in the class and she could enrol me to the class. I was more than...

Assignment #2 – 360 Video Pitch

Imagine being a prospective student or recent graduate on game day and the whole school is drenched in orange. Now imagine reliving that feeling on campus through a 360 video. My video will start at a game day tailgate. The camera rig will be placed above 7 feet so you can see everything and everyone. Since there are so many people at an event like this, you wont be able to see anything if you’re average height level. Also a ghosting effect may occur if people are too close.   The...

360 Scene

The scene will be filmed in a The angle will be from a woman’s view who works at the club. The goal is to reflect to the public how it feels being an object of someone else’s pleasure in a club and to acknowledge the effect of this position. THE SCENE: Will be shooting in a closed area (the club), there will lots of movement close to the camera.  The camera will be at an average human height, but at a low angle to emphasize the inferior feeling of the...

360 Video Proposals

My first proposal for a 360 video would be purely used for exhibition purposes. My first thought was a 6' high camera on center court/field of college sports arena/field. Most people have seen players from the stands; placing yourself on the court and viewing the thousands of people in their seats,  from centerstage, is an anxiety-inducing experience that can even impact the performance of elite athletes. Being able to see from the court would add the performer's perspective which the average viewer has lacked in years past. My second proposal is more immersive....

Assignment 2: 360 Video Pitch

Carly Port At a school where Greek life is so dominant, how intriguing would it be to explore deep beneath the surface of what it means to be a sorority sister. Now, imagine what it’s like to capture the moment of a girl accepting her bid – to some the highlight of their semester – and celebrating with all of her new sisters in an outrageous display of jubilation, clad with chanting, screaming, dancing, crying, hugging, singing – you name it, it’s going down. To make this experience that much...

Assignment #2: 360 Video Pitch

This 360 would explore the "behind the scenes" of the popular Syracuse restaurant Pastabilities. The ultimate product would walk the viewer through different parts of "back end" life of working at this restaurant, following the journey of a server who works at the restaurant. The piece would begin with the view from the service entrance and then travel to the kitchen and then out onto the main floor (near tables) and then at the end of the night, end up back outside. While the opening scenes in the beginning and end...

Assignment 2: 360 Video Pitch(es[?])

VR and 360 video are parallel developments in their function as "empathy machines". We as content creators must focus on developing narratives and experiences that make the most effective use of this technology's strengths and limitations. For 360 video, one of these strengths is the ability to force a viewer to "search" for developments or unique moments in a narrative or experience. With all this in mind, I strove to come up with a concept for a 360 video that would make use of every (or at least, almost every) inch of...
