360 Video Pitch

I am a huge sports fans and I intend to have a career in sports media, most likely behind the scenes in a production role. As such, I have already begun to explore existing 360 degree videos of sports games, events and venues. I have found 360 degree tours of sports venues on YouTube and tried them out in Google Cardboard. As such, I think it would be interesting to do a "behind-the-scenes" tour of one of the oldest sports venues in Upstate New York, the Onondaga County War Memorial....

Assignment 2: 360 Video Pitch

My idea involves using the 360 video to show a sports radio talk show and what it takes to go through prepare, actually do the show, etc. It could start at the preparation of the show and not only experience the hosts, but also what the producer is doing during commercial breaks and everything behind the scenes. The lighting would be indoors and the audio would be good because it would be taken directly from the mics in the station. I was thinking that there would be multiple protagonists, the 2 hosts...

Assignment 2: 360 pitch

I'd like to pitch a 360 video of walking inside the art gallery for those who can't go see themselves but still would like to see the exhibition or the gallery. Currently, there's an exhibition called "Wanderlust: Travel photograph from the Syracuse University Art Collection." It is a collection of original photographs from the late 1800s till now showing travel photos of various places. The video would start from walking into the gallery, and start walking around the exhibition room, while stopping at each photo with titles and short description...

Assignment 2: 360 Video Pitch

My 360 video concept centers on a “typical” SU student on “gameday”. My vision begins in a room where an alarm goes off and a student looks at a big calendar, clearly marked that today is the big game. After a montage of what looks to be a boring day of classes for the student, we see him/her run through a door, clearly on their way somewhere. We are then transported to a place where students have gathered to watch the game, or into the actual Carrier Dome. We...

Assignment 2: 360 Video Pitch

I would like to pitch a 360 video that uses a number of scenes to tell a story that the VR participant follows along with in an attempt to figure out by the end of the video. It would ultimately be something where the participant would need to observe things to figure out the villain or plot of the story before it ends, kind of like a game of clue. For example, one scene could be the participant sitting in their office cubicle and then getting things like emails on...

Thoughts and Experiences about VR

I have a very high expectation on VR storytelling class, and our first meeting went beyond it. Among all different kinds of VR headsets, HTC gave me the most engaging and amazing VR experience. I felt physically present in the VR world because the quality of 3D sound, graphics, and even the angel of shooting are highly immersive. I remembered a scene of an island, probably in south Asia. I was seating in a boat and a woman in front me was rowing the boat. I felt myself can even...

First VR Experience

Before last Wednesday's class, I had never had the opportunity to test out and experience virtual reality equipment.  I had read numerous articles, heard stories from friends, and also seen people experience it in movies but the chance to try it never became available till now.  After trying it, I believe Virtual reality is a great, immersive experience and I am not shocked it is becoming more prevalent in today's society.  In each scene I entered through the VR equipment, I actually felt as though I was there and for...

My First Impression of Virtual Reality

This past Wednesday was my first time really experiencing virtual reality.  I, like many others, have watched 360 videos on my phone.  I have also used the interactive VR wall that is in Newhouse, just outside the VR lab. I had no idea, though, in all of the times that I had passed that wall that just around the corner was a whole other universe that I didn't even realize we had access to. The first thing I tried when I went into the Innovation Lab was the Google Cardboard....

My First Impression of VR

The first time I truly experienced virtual reality was in class this past Wednesday. Before signing up for our class, I had watched a few 360 videos on YouTube, but they always seemed so unrealistic, and I had never put on a pair of goggles and been transported into a scene. I tried a few different devices including the HTC Vive and Google Cardboard, among others. My favorite story to be immersed in was about Henry the Hedgehog. While I don’t think I felt 100% physically present in the scene...

Assignment 1 – First Impression

During the first class I used the google cardboard, the hololens, and the Oculus Rift. I would say that the best experience for me was the Rift. Google cardboard is a decent experience however it doesn’t really seem much different than watching a 360 video. It does put you in the experience a bit more but the quality did not seem very good. As for the hololens, it did seem like a better experience and the audio was better however, for me, it seemed a little odd working in the...
