Assignment 5: Making a Newscast

So as you know my previous idea, my talk show, had some tech issues, so on Tuesday, I 360 filmed my 465 newscast class. I thought it was a good idea, because there is always so much going on in the background that it works for 360.  It is also a good idea in my opinion because news is such a hot topic these days and I do not think people realize how hard it is to make a newscast. The shots I used were one of the producer meeting,...

A Day in the Life

I initially had a lot of trouble coming up with an idea for a video, so I watched probably a dozen of the NYT Daily 360 videos. A common theme out of those videos was unless there was a news angle to them, most of them just showed off specific locations with a little information about each place. So, I decided to take that concept and run with it, hence, A Day in the Life of a Syracuse University student. I shot at three locations on campus: Food.com in Newhouse,...

Assignment 5: Behind the Scenes with the Syracuse Crunch

My video takes the viewer behind the scenes at the War Memorial Arena on a game day. It begins in the team's office, where all of the Crunch employees arrive more than eight hours before the start of the game to prepare. This includes writing, printing and distributing game notes, making final ticket sales and organizing that night's promotions. I elected to put together the piece in the style of a television news package. I used several shots from different parts of the arena and press box and put my...

Project 6: Wasim’s world of Warcraft (II) in Unity

(Apologies, it seems the salutation at the beginning was cut off. I swear I'm not calling you 'checo!) A little play on words for the title, but in the '90s I'd make a lot of maps in the real-time strategy game of Warcraft 2. That was a top-down, 2D view of the world in which orcs and humans engaged in combat. This is how I'd imagine a 3D Version of that would go, created for my first project in Unity. These are, of course, not the same models you'd find...

Assignment 5: “Choral Collage” Night at Setnor Auditorium 360

For this assignment, I decided to film the "Choral Collage" Night at the Setnor Auditorium because it was an important event on campus that  fits the style of The New York Times Daily 360. I also believe that a concert in 360 style will bring audience great visual and audial experience. The event featured several choirs, from University Singers to Oratorio Society, showcasing the unbelievable power music had that brought everyone together. The obstacle I had during the filming process is that it was a live concert. As a result, it was...

Wasim’s Assignment 5: 360 degrees of tattooing

Halo Tattoo has been a staple on Marshall Street for 20 years. Over the years, co-owner DJ Rose has had many people come by for photos and videos (send him your stuff, if that's you, he asks!) but this is the first time anyone has approached him for 360 video. One of the reasons this makes for a good (I hope) 360 video idea is the space itself. There is literally art over every inch of this place, including the ceiling. It seems from previous experience at the Women's March...

Assignment 6: Post-industrial Unity Scene

What I tried with Unity this time is to build a post-industrial scene. With the old flat cars, the pipes, the barrels and boxes I downloaded from the asset store, the set is like a deserted "no-man land" that is good for an adventure story. Originally, I tried to use more assets, like some rocks and wooden bridge. However, like professor mentioned in class, a bunch of red alarms reminding me something was wrong did occur, like "materials need to be regenerated", and some assets did not seem to fit this version...

Art Exhibit 360

Our initial idea for our 360 video was to provide a 360 view of an art exhibit. Luckily, our video stitching worked successfully the first time we attempted it. This is most likely because there was not a lot of movement throughout the video. With this video, our goal was to create a soothing "museum-like" experience for people that might live to far away from an art museum. We added in jazzy music to go with the overall experience of the video. If Nadine, Kyle, and I were to create...

Don’t Be a Bystander

I remember in the beginning watching all of the videos in class but I can't remember seeing one that was a PSA or an ad of some kind, and that's where the original inspiration for this video came from. When people traditionally think about sexual assault, they tend to think of two people: the victim and the perpetrator. We intended for this video to shed light on the idea that this problem doesn't only include two people. We are all bystanders.   https://youtu.be/3mHCOeBdRZA         With that being...
