For my final project I decided to work with the Matilda Joslyn Gage Center, a museum/home of a suffragette and abolitionist, to create an interactive audio tour type scene. I used photogrammetry to create objects from the museum and place them in this scene. I originally wanted to recreate speeches from the Seneca Falls convention and pair that with the footage I took from the Women's March at the beginning of the semester but am happy I was able to learn photogrammetry instead and apply it to this scene. The...
For my independent learning assignment, I used resources from Lynda.com and Youtube. On Lynda I watched different portions of the Unity 5: 3D Essential Training video for various parts of my project. For our first Unity assignment, this was a very useful tool for me just getting used to importing assets, setting up my terrain, creating a skybox, and utilizing many other basic features of Unity. I also used the Creating and Implementing Animation portion of the tutorial to figure out how to get the characters in my final project...
For my final project, I set out to construct my own personal Drive-In movie theatre in Unity. Two years ago, I visited a drive-in theatre about 30 mins outside Syracuse and saw the horror film, It Follows, with a couple friends. It was the first time I got to experience a film in a way I thought had went extinct. In reality, there are still a few drive-in theaters in the U.S. but the number of them has gotten very low. This project was a way for people to relive...
https://tabel.withgoogle.com/ Tabel is an experimental VR film project from Google’s Art Copy and Code project. The 7-minute interactive short film may look just like a scene in the middle of the restaurant which ended with a fire in the kitchen, but it has a much more powerful meaning behind it, it’s about climate change. Tabel is a word play of table, as the whole movie mainly focused on the people of the surrounding tables. This interactive movie is different from others in a way that they use unique audio...
So I have been using Lynda.com for a while now and I have used it for a whole lot of different things. The course, or courses, that I generally find the most helpful, at least when starting out with something new like a program are the “essential” group of courses that Lynda has. These usually are fairly long to go through but give you a pretty good walk through. The one I used which related to the first final project I was trying (which I had to scrap due to...
Sarah Luo_Final Project: To be a giant or dwarf (Interactive Experience in Unity)

◆The core concept of my final project: I always believe VR can be used more than just an entertaining tool, so I hope my final project can be both funny and soul-touching. I would like to describe the project as my first attempt in testing the power of VR in philosophy and psychology. It is built upon a simple but profound philosophical idea: When you believe you are a giant and master the power that other people may not have, you may overlook and ignore the most subtle, precious, and beautiful things around you. I...

Hello Everyone, As part of an additional graduate requirement I interviewed Brian Cavallaro, the Chief Creative Officer at MANDT VR. We discussed how MANDT got into VR, their process for creating content including what they are using for gear, and also some projects they are working on. MANDT VR - Interview with Brian Cavallaro
After talking to one of the co-chairs of the Association of Public Diplomacy Scholars APDS, they mentioned they are having a Public Diplomacy Summit in 2018 in Washington DC. Since the summit is not on campus, they wanted a 360 video that would allow the participants to see the campus and experience what Public Diplomacy scholars go through on a daily basis. Syracuse University campus is a very beautiful campus with various spots to film the 360 video. I started to brainstorm with the APDS on where they often go,...
For the final project I created two different types of interactive experiences for people interested in visiting (or unable to visit) the Montauk Lighthouse, New York's first lighthouse located at the very end of the southern tip of Long Island. Montauk has been my "happy place" for a while, and so it was nice to come back and create an experience that one can use in a headset to feel like they were there - for instance, if you are disabled or are otherwise unable to make it up the...
For my Lynda.com video requirement, I watched the video and took the quiz titled "Getting Started in Video Editing and Production. I chose to watch this video because the career path that I want to follow is documentary style video journalism, whether it's 360 video or regular 2d video. The instructor says something that hits close to home for me and that was, "if you want to shoot a video, the last thing you should do is go out and shoot." This means that you need to actually think...
