Creepy City:
Note: Please forgive the horrible audio -- music and footsteps sound very odd in the recording...
I started working on this to get comfortable with Unity, so I tried to do some things that I wasn't really prepared for. I tried setting 'trigger zones' where music would transition to a 'suspense' audio clip (like when you enter a boss fight in a video game and the music suddenly shifts to action mode). I found a tutorial on the Unity website, followed it, and failed. I didn't look for other tutorials after that one (because I figured that Unity would probably have the best one), which was admittedly a mistake. I also had trouble with resizing and moving objects around. After creating 'n' buildings, I didn't want to resize them individually, but when I selected multiple objects and tried, it just messed up the whole set up. Basically, I learned to think ahead.
I could create pretty much any post-apocalyptic scene through this environment -- zombies, rapture, natural disaster, mutants, nuclear meltdown. But the story I would create would be one where reality is warped in a series of levels that get progressively less coherent until you learn that you have been placed in a simulated environment and try to escape, probably unsuccessfully. Ideally, the player could climb structures, drive, and could improvise weapons from objects in the environment -- in my head, the evil mastermind sets bad guys against the main character based on fears from his/her/their subconscious.
I'd like to mix audio and visual cues to move the story forward -- a 'halo' around an object on the floor signals you can interact with it, a noise down the alley signals something is happening there, and then it's clues from characters that sneak into the levels. I definitely need to work on getting myself into the mindset of a 'game creator' and think about interactivity in more depth, which is pretty alien to me...
Moon Party:
While working on my 'Creepy City' Unity project, I stumbled upon an asset for a moon landscape and couldn't help myself, so I made another project! NASA files showed that Apollo 10 astronauts on the moon heard mysterious 'music.' This is my interpretation of what really happened on that lunar mission.
It was more likely some sort of radio interference, but I like my story better. I attached a TARDIS noise to the TARDIS, and music to the record player. Over all, it was pretty easy to make this scene. The main issue I ran into was trying to apply animation to the characters -- I looked up a tutorial and still failed. I also wanted to try putting in a third person controller, but I was unable to figure it out on my own.
As for a story, I don't think it lends itself to a cohesive story, but if I could actually animate them I would definitely start a dance fight with the Doctor. Or Amy and Rory, who don't appear to know how to dance very well.
