As with all final things the end of our project is something that is bittersweet. On the one hand I'm pleased that the final version of the project is something I'm proud of. Its incredible to see something that myself (and everyone that was a part of Supergroup) spent so many hours on come to fruition. On the other hand the project represents my final 360 Project with Newhouse and with my friends which of course is a cause for little melancholy and of course self-reflection. Its on the latter...

When I was thinking about who was working in VR and the things they were doing in it I immediately thought of our very own Andrew Polino. Andrew graduated from Newhouse with a degree in broadcast journalism, but after taking this very class decided to branch off into VR. Andrew is currently working on "Eyewitness" a joint project between the Syracuse police department and Syracuse University. In keeping with typical interview procedure my questions to Andrew are in regular type and his replies are in italics. How did you get...
Games, like VR or 360, are a strange and often difficult medium to tell stories with. However, like VR and 360 video games can be a compelling and visceral way to integrate an audience with themes. Slaying the Dragon has a lot of great insights into story telling within the medium of games. While there is quite a bit of information in the text here are four important things I learned about gaming and game stories from Slaying the Dragon. Games have rules. This one seems self explanatory but it...
Our project seeks to frame the world of Newhouse through the lens of innovation. Over the years the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications has been an important part in driving the growth of the media. Lyndon B. Johnson gave his Gulf of Tonkin speech at the commemoration of Newhouse 1. Great newscasters and entertainers like Regis Philbin graduated from the school and went on to change the media as we know it. Being a part of Newhouse we’re immersed in its history and blessed with its many opportunities. But...
Assignment 7-Ott

For my assignment I wanted to just play around with the idea with a zombie that was as scared of me as I was of it. I just felt like that was a funny thing to play around with. I made the trigger with so that the zombie would retreat whenever I did so that it would echo that sentiment "its as scared of you as you are of it." As a storytelling element I wonder if anyone has played around with the idea of frightened zombies, or a survival...
Despite having some pretty lofty aspirations for what I wanted to do with playmaker I settled for a simple scene using a "switch" and a floating cylinder. I'm not pleased with how it looks but I am happy that it functions the way that I intended. Also, moving forward I wonder if this is how you make floating platforms for games? It wouldn't be particularly hard to swap my cylinder with a cube, add collision the cube, slow is speed, and then use that to carry an FPS controller. Just...

Interplay With Games VRGames as a genre have seen some of the most prolific growth out of every entertainment medium. 20 years ago we were looking at pixelized Italian men crushing turtles and eating mushrooms. Now, games are a 44 billion dollar a year industry that spans every platform from consoles, to smartphones. One of the newest innovations in gaming is the combination of traditional gaming platforms with virtual reality technology. As virtual reality and augmented reality are rising in popularity there is a growing movement to combine the best...
Expanded Unity Assignment Pitch

For my expanded unity assignment I want to play around more with the creation of a treasure chest. I found a ton of great assets in the asset store and I want to change my scene to be about an explorer, traversing an ancient fortress and finding a cache of treasure. Other then feeding my love for creating ancient ruins filled with monsters (yay) I also want to see if I can get a set of doors to open the same way I got the chest to open. It shouldn't...

Now that we're officially on Littlstar and Youtube I wanted to share a little bit about my experience working on our VR Project. Hopefully something here helps those who want to use the 360 Rig to tell stories that are more like traditional film and television shows. First though, a huge shout out to Super group for making this project possible, ya'll the real MVPs. Obviously the 360 Cam has certain limitations, the biggest one of these being that its hard to move the camera without causing serious ghosting issues....

1.What worked I think the thing that worked most was the kinds of texturing I did. The jagged edges I thought really worked well to help create the badlands feel that I wanted. The scenario I was trying to depict was that of a long range hiker in the badlands who stumbles onto ruins and strange creatures therein. Although the creatures roar in the beginning, luring the hiker to their site, when he reaches them they are standing quietly facing an angel statue. I wound up using the default skybox...
