Moving from photography to video production this year forced me to add to my workflow. Capturing one single moment in a photographic frame is easy to do on the fly. Videography requires planning. Last semester I added pre-production planning and story boarding to my workflow to help me make better videos. When I moved to 360 degree videos, my workflow needed to adapt again. A standard storyboard is useless for 360 degree video. I cannot put a subject in a part of a frame. I cannot move the camera. I...
My final VR project of the semester was always going to be about my dream. Since September two fellow Syracuse University seniors and I have been growing our video production startup into a full fledged business. Our key distinguishing factor? We're going to live on a school bus when we graduate and drive around the country making short explainer videos for startups and small businesses to use for Kickstarter campaigns, business competitions, and on their company websites. We know a thing or two about crowdfunding campaigns too. Our Indiegogo campaign...

I will be presenting on "Zero Latency," a VR gaming company in Australia. They've hatched a plot to create "IRL VR" with a bunch of PlayStation Moves and some Oculus Rifts. My presentation has a couple videos in it that aren't viewable in Slideshare's web platform, but if you download the presentation and play it through Powerpoint, you'll get the full experience. You can find the slides here: http://www.slideshare.net/secret/tOJZoE9L62TbFv Just my last ditch effort to turn VR Storytelling into a gaming class.
Hey look, I made a flying pill move from one space of sky to another space of sky. It was fun-ish. Once you get the hang of how to think about Unity actions, it's not that difficult. Check it out!

My Project I love Unity. It's incredibly awesome. Ideas of scenes and movies that have lived in my head for twenty years have a possibility of actually existing. The potential for Unity is very high. It just takes finding the right models for the right price, or learning how to make them myself. The actual building process in Unity came pretty easily. Assembling pieces and set objects, as well as importing animations and sound from the Unity store isn't that different from importing files into Final Cut Pro or building...

The concept is to set up the camera rig in the center of a Black Box Players rehearsal or playground session. Dramatic, interesting characters, plenty of movement, actors trained to act for an audience watching from multiple directions, and always interesting activities make it the ideal place to try our first attempts at 360-video recording. It will most likely be a small space, with lots of movement, and plenty to catch a viewer's attention. Characters will be both close and far from the rig, depending on how the scene develops. The...
