Assignments 6 & 7 – Making Interactive Worlds and Characters

So, I decided to kill two birds with one stone and upload assignments 6 & 7 in the same post.

I'm still having trouble with Unity. It's not the easiest system to use, but at least I'm not making the same mistakes - I'm making new ones! So, I was tasked with making an interactive environment in assignment 6 and making a character that moves because I've interacted with the environment in assignment 7. I've decided to submit a video that shows both things happening at the same time.

I took my environment from my last Unity assignment and decided to make a very crude "distress call response" story, where the player is checking out a crashed spaceship and, while near the ship, a space monster walks up to them. Oooh! Spooky! Like I said, it's pretty crude, but there is an interactive experience there and it does tell a very simple story. Again, I'm crawling before I can walk.

It took me a little bit to remember how Playmaker works in Unity, but I figured it out and was able to get the scene to work. Making sure the logic works is one thing, making animations work is something totally different and possibly even more frustrating. I'm learning that those who are sloppy and lazy with Unity are only rewarded with frustration and confusion. A perfect attention to detail is required to make this program work the way one wants. No exceptions. Hopefully I get a little better with the software because I think Unity is the coolest way to make VR experiences. If only I were better with it!
