Assignment 4: Creating a Scene in Unity Audrey Lee

I wanted to create a scene that was unlike any other and so I chose a very colorful terrain texture, which featured a psychedelic pattern. This, combined with the scene’s blue and pink galactic skybox made the scene feel very trippy and confusing, which was the vibe I was trying to achieve. While I was able to insert ambient rain forest sounds in the background of my scene, I had a lot of trouble placing the roaring tiger noises because they would sound off at the wrong times (typically just at the beginning of the scene). A majority of the time I spent creating my scene went to troubleshooting (AKA me on Friday night in the lab watching random YouTube videos, searching through forums, and trying to find the most realistic tiger growls). I’m still not certain about attaching sound to the objects in unity so I’d definitely like to see where I went wrong in this respect. Unfortunately while my scene does have sound in it, I was not able to capture the sound in the Quicktime screencast on the Newhouse lab Macs, as I would have had to download an outside app onto the closed device. Something I would personally like to explore in Unity is how to create more elaborate scenes using advanced settings because I really enjoyed learning how to create a virtual world essentially from scratch.

I could picture this scene as the setting for a very dystopian future, where tigers are the only animals that exist and the game’s player has to interact with them in order to achieve different goals in the game. Alternatively, in a MacGyver-esque way, it would be a fin idea if different tools are hidden in the scene and a player has to find objects in order to create a device and move to a different location (level) in the scene, where a different task awaits. I think this storyline would work well because my scene features a lot of warehouses and broken-down vans, where it's possible for clues/resources to be hidden.

If I was able to add more characters to my scene, I also think it would be a fun idea to do an alternate universe themed space adventure, where my scene is a different planet, inhabited exclusively by hyper-intelligent tigers. These tigers act as guides and show each game user a different aspect of their civilization. The player could work with the tigers to, again, achieve some sort of larger goal and clear different levels in the game. Although I'm not sure what this greater goal would be, I think this would be a very unique virtual world experience.
