Using Unity for the first time was a great experience. The ability to create a world in seconds and then being able to jump right in it was what really impressed me the most.
At first, the interface took a little time to get used to, but after some practice it became familiar. I have used 3D software before (Cinema 4D), but I found Unity to be very different. Most of the time I was trying to get better with the various terrain tools. My goal was to create realistic looking mountains in my scene, which I think I did a decent job with in the end product. I enjoyed trying out various textures within Unity, but never took any off the asset store.
It was very cool to look in the asset store at all of the different creations. While many of the expensive ones were insane, there was a great selection of free 3d models to choose from. However, some of the downloaded assets wouldn’t work with Unity and so I had to delete them. I ended up using a tree package, a boat model, and a wooden bridge model as three assets in my scene.
What troubled me the most in Unity and took the longest time to get used to was navigating the camera. For some reason I had difficult time at points trying to position the camera in a certain spot to view something in the scene. Overall, I look forward to learning to do much more within the software!
One question I still have within Unity is about both of my assets. I imported both a boat and bridge, but when I went into FPS mode I would go right through the models. Is there a physics component I need to apply to the models?
