Ky Duyen Cafe in Syracuse

For this exercise I’d like to focus on the Vietnamese cafe Ky Duyen located on N Salina Street in Syracuse. I chose this place to make a short observational study because I like its timeless atmosphere and the warmth of the people who work there.

The scene
It is a medium room, empty in the center. I would like to put the camera in the place of the flower (see image above). This way, we would see the customers, the owners and the people who enter the cafe.

Lighting
The big window and the transparent door allow enough natural lighting to enter the room. I would like to try shooting two scenes, one at noon, when there is plenty of light and one around sunset, during the “golden hour” (will have to check the light at sunset).

Audio
The sound will be recorded separately on H6 Zoom Records and possibly a lavalier.

Experience
The viewer is a silent, invisible witness of a day in a Vietnamese cafe. I am not hoping to give a specific experience to those who chose to be part of this experience, I'd like to create a context for them to explore a place they’ve probably never been to before.

Where is my head?
The viewer is sitting at the table in the center of the cafe. (Approximately where the flower is in the image). The filmmaker will not be in the scene.
