Final Project – Yeagee Jung
My final project was covering the Mr. Asia pageant put on by the Asian Students in America. It's an event hosted by the club that celebrates diversity and inclusion on campus. What drew my attention to this particular event was that there was a male pageant aspect of the event that I thought was really fun and unique. The event was first put in place last year, so this year marked the second time that it was put on, and I think it went really well! I was worried because of the darkness in the room that the routines wouldn't pick up, but I was happy to be wrong!
This project really allowed me to focus on the narrative that I wanted to portray and I was really glad that I was able to ask my friend and the winner of the pageant to tell me a little bit about his experience which he was happy to do. I thought it was a good storytelling aspect just because of the nature of the event gave room for a lot of insight into what motivated these men to compete in the pageant. The night was made more special by the guest speaker from Buzzfeed's Worth It show, Steven Lim! He gave us a lot of good advice about just being Asian American minorities in America and was a very insightful speaker overall!
