Welcome to Pan-mun-jom.
As the virtual experience begins, please pay attention to the picture in front of you. This project is building the 3d model of the real scene, and the image contains the actual scene which I tried to reconstruct.
The tall building looking over the image is called the House of Freedom, a structure which locates on the northern verge of the South Korean border. Going through the building, you will find the boundary between South and North Korea.
Panmunjom was a village just north of the de facto border between North and South Korea, where the 1953 Korean Armistice Agreement that paused the Korean War was signed. The building where the armistice was signed still stands(Wikipedia). The one-story blue building which is located just to the north of the House of Freedom is the venue.
For a short explanation of the making process, I started the work by looking through all the free assets and class assets to find building blocks for structures of the scene. Adjusting each size of the blocks according to the scheme of the blueprint was followed. Panmungak, building on the stairways and the North Korean counterpart to the House of Freedom, epitomizes the specific work. I made the stairways by using a mesh of free asset and put its signboard of original Korean letter by editing a texture of another unrelated object.
Panmunjom is often used as a metonym for the nearby Joint Security Area, where discussions between North and South Korea still take place in the blue buildings that straddle the Military Demarcation Line. Although you can visit both sides freely in virtual reality, it is surprising that nobody could go back and forth through the border for more than sixty years. It is a tragedy of an unfinished war.
