On this Wednesday I really had a great time enjoying different kinds of VR facilities in our lab. I was shocked because the VR facilities helped me achieve something impossible and dangerous in real world.

I am a fan of astronomy so that what attracted me mostly is the scene of soaring in the space and standing on the land of Mars. I could see stars and meteors clearly with the 3D sound of explosion. In other words, the visual effect and auditory effect did make me feel that I was in a real world. Actually I felt scared of an alien scene that was too vivid to keep watching. Except human models, the resolution was enough to depict a real thing for me.

But as for the weakness, I did not have a sense of touch, which made me realize that these things did not exist in my life. I had a spatial sense in a jail scene because I could move to access the item in the jail. However, without the sense of touch, I could not locate or perceive myself. In most of the scenes, the background could move but I knew I was not moving at the moment. Therefore, I was more like a ghost floating in the air but not a part of the scene. In addition, I got nausea because of the movement of the background. But I think the technology just makes use of the movement and the nausea in order to make it more real.

As for the hardware, I prefer the mobile version which is easy to manipulate to the computer version. It allows a wider range for movement. Besides, the handlebar connected with the computer version confused me a lot. I could not make the desired manipulation all the time.

Anyway, the experience is great and amazing and I am looking forward to the next class.
