Dreams of Dali Presentation

Dreams of Dali Presentation

Dreams of Dali is a VR experience created by Goodby Silverstein & Partners, a digital media ad agency. It's their first foray into the VR world, and it's a pretty great starting point. The VR environment is based on Dali's "Archaeological Reminiscence of Milet's 'Angelus'," and is designed to feel like the audience is walking around Dali's mind, using the painting as a jumping off point. You can take a look at the trailer for Dreams of Dali here, or see the full 360 video here.

I also referenced The Night Cafe, a VR experience based on Van Gogh's art. You can see that using the GearVR or Oculus Rift in the innovation lab. You can also see the trailer here, and it was made by Borrowed Light Studios, "an independent, virtual reality focused, game studio based in Greenpoint, Brooklyn" (their website).

The takeaway, for me, was that this VR experience is good for its intended purpose, honoring Dali at the Dali and Disney exhibition at the Dali museum in St. Petersburg, FL. It didn't explore and innovate in the way that Dali likely would have while using this technology, and I think there are ways to make the experience more immersive, like allowing you to be Dali. Allowing the act of observation to distort objects in virtual space.
