Lynda Video- Video Production

Lynda Video- Video Production

For my Lynda.com video requirement, I watched the video and took the quiz titled "Getting Started in Video Editing and Production. I chose to watch this video because the career path that I want to follow is documentary style video journalism, whether it's 360 video or regular 2d video.

The instructor says something that hits close to home for me and that was, "if you want to shoot a video, the last thing you should do is go out and shoot." This means that you need to actually think through your video from beginning to end before you go out and shoot, so you don't waste time or resources. He says that it's important to write out an outline just like when writing an essay. "An aspiring musician would never expect to just jump on stage without practice and get a standing ovation and an aspiring filmmaker shouldn't expect to capture beautiful images without practice."

Although most of the video had to do just with regular video making, the video editing part is basically the same. He says that you need to decide what order to put the shots in, when to use a voice over, when to add music, etc. to make a coherent story.

Lastly, the instructor talks about things like adding graphics and changing the lighting. Knowing how to change the lighting is extremely important, as Josh and I created a project early in the semester that some scenes were rendered useless because of the dark lighting. Knowing how to effectively change the lighting would have stopped this from happening.
