Independent Learning – Samantha Ho

While working on both 360° videos for this class, I faced learning experiences outside of the typical VR skill set through two different Lynda courses. Working on both the DPS VR video and my own personal Heathers The Musical project, it was important for me and my group members to have an aesthetically pleasing patch for the nadir hole. In order to create a custom patch for both videos, we needed to imagine our own for one and use a an already made logo for the other. Due to this, I knew that Adobe Photoshop was going to be my best tool to create this patches. Unfortunately, before these projects, I was not too familiar with photoshop. Thankfully, Lynda had a full class on the multi-faceted tools that photoshop provides. Learning how to import, layer, crop, and color certain items, I learned how to import a blank circle and turn it into a logo for my video. Although I didn't end up utilizing the skill for one of my final patches, the Lynda class also taught me how to create text that could bend around the circle.

Another Lynda course that ended up becoming a big help to my final project was a class that taught me how to remove certain bars around my exported video. After stitching together multiple different scenes for my VR final project, our group edited a final video with titles and credits on Adobe Premiere Pro. Unfortunately, when we exported our video, we did not take notice of the black bars on top and bottom of the video. When viewing the video in 360°, we realized that there was a black hole at the top and bottom of the video, from those bars. After searching Lynda for some assistance, I watched this video that taught me how to assess and fix the problem. It showed me how to tell the difference between fixing either the original footage or the exported file. Our final product was that much more successful because of it.
