For this assignment I focused on trying to learn basic aspects of unity to create what could be an establishing scene to a story. I experimented with different textures to add shading to the mountains and create a lake and stone path. I added assets like a medieval house, wooden bridge, and cart to add to this theme that my scene was taking place a long time ago. I liked that the scene left you wondering whether to head to the lake, the house, or the mountains because it would...

Unity and I are going to be the best of all friendemies. It is really amazing to be able to creative a virtual scene, however it's extremely intricate. More precisely, you need to be make sure to be very detailed because if not then your scene won't make sense or look good. The biggest issue I hadbesides trying to make everythign as realistic as possible was trying to add water... I don't know why but it always comes out very strange when I do it.

In this scene I tried to create a variety of different objects that ultimately did not work. I was proud that I could navigate around basics components for operating unity. Implementing different objects into my world, creating basic layouts and fixing lighting were all very natural. I began to really get a hold of moving around in unity because it is a space that you truly have to get adjusted to. I loved being able to work through different tasks and trying to make the best scene that I could....

I just created my first scene of virtual reality. Holy cow. It took me multiple attempts between the first try and the final cut to come up with a simple sequence that I felt proud of. For a while, I found these multiple attempts at creating a scene to be very frustrating. I couldn't wrap my head around the technology, there were so many balls to juggle, and there were so many folders within folders within folders, hidden in obscure places on the computer desktop. There were moments where I...
VR Scene (Assignment 2)

I really enjoyed this project, because I tried to think about how to utilize the full space. It took some getting use to, to be able to think in a much larger 3D dimensional world. I am very use to shooting for film and TV which requires a lot of focus on what is in the fore, mid, and background to create a more realistic feeling. This however, took another level of consideration, because you also had to take into account what was above you and behind you. When the...

Although I had to create a scene three times because I had major problems with saving, I thoroughly enjoyed making my scene. The best part was being able to walk through it, and see what the scene looked like on the ground. It made all the frustration and hard work worth it because I could walk through my scene and see the boat I put in there, or the campfire I had right next to the water. I couldn't experience it virtually in 3D, but even to just be able...
Virtual Reality Experience!

Virtual Reality is booming and I love every second of it! Being able to experience some of the worlds that have been created has brought me great insight to the story telling techniques that have been developed thus far. What I really enjoyed in terms of what did work was the documentary involving the Ebola outbreak in Africa. The VR has been referred to as the empathy machine, and this stood true with the Ebola story. What really worked to help create this space was the 360-degree view at all...

Virtual Reality. Two words I had scarcely heard and probably even more scarcely thought about before taking this course. So naturally, on Wednesday while trying out the Samsung Gear for the first time I had no idea what to expect. I'm supposed to move my head left to right, up and down. Okay. It's going to look like I was there in person, ideally. Okay. Eventually devices like this will allow us first row seats to basketball games and simulate an around the world adventure, for potentially a much cheaper...

After class this past Wednesday, I left thinking about how amazing this industry is, and how quickly it will take off. It was only a few months ago that I first discovered VR in the form of Google Cardboard, and just when I thought it could not get more impressive, I got the chance to try an even more immersive VR experience on Wednesday. I was blown away at how quickly you can completely become consumed by the experience. Even the less polished VR can still become something incredible. While...
Assignment 1 – Josh Daghir

Before the class in the innovation lab, I had tried the Oculus Rift on two separate occasions, and Google Cardboard once. Large amounts of time passed between these experiences, so being able to try one VR device after the other allowed me to start to more fully understand the differences between them. I used the GearVR first, followed by Google Cardboard. One thing I noticed about the VR experiences that I tried was that they did not need a narrative to tell a story. Simply being in the space simulator...
