Independent Learning – Koenig

For my independent learning, instead of reading, I wanted to discuss my work with Mixamo and finding the tutorials that I posted to help other students add characters to their scenes. I am so happy that when I was creating my third assignment I had such a burning desire to add an animated character to my scene, that I spent HOURS finding and looking through tutorials and websites to figure out how to do so. I found Mixamo and their extensive animation library on kind of a fluke. As I looked...

Independent Learning – Olivia Arty

For my independent learning, I watched the Lynda tutorial on Unity Essentials and WOW was it helpful. In this tutorial you learnt everything from, starting a project to adding animation to baking lighting. I really regret waiting so long to do it because I could have fine tuned my skills by leaps and bounds if I had done this earlier on in the semester. Nonetheless, I focused primarily on the designing and constructing the game level section because it went over the nitty gritty of terrain design. I applied my...

VR Reflection

I don't even know where to begin. Before Wednesday's class, my exposure to VR was minimal. I had maybe played with the immersive technology two times beforehand. So, when I found out we'd be spending a whole class playing for VR, I felt like a little kid before Christmas. And, I wasn't disappointed. Experiences that worked well for me were the spherical ones of nature. For instance, the very first experience my group and I tried was one of the NASA space station. We were “literally” taken to space. It...

Knickerbocker Independent Learning

For my independent learning project I chose to seek out some further guides on using Playmaker for Unity. Initially I tried to watch some of the lynda.com videos on blackboard, but found that most didn't touch on playmaker. After searching through lynda.com and not having much luck, I went to youtube and found a great series of tutorials on playmaker. Although the guy creating the videos has quite the accent, I found his videos gave some really useful tips to make animating easier. My favorite tip was renaming objects for...

Final Project

The final project was the most challenging assignment of the semester – as it should be. One of my greatest challenges for this assignment was conceptualizing a VR experience that I was passionate about and tied in with my advertising major. Initially, because of my love for fashion and retail, I wanted to create a VR shopping experience. However, after trying and failing and trying and failing, I scrapped the idea because I found I just didn’t have the skill set actually to create an interactive VR experience. Knowing that...

Final (individual) project- Flavin

I found the final project to be a daunting undertaking. For me, the virtual reality class has always been a struggle that I have tried my hardest to learn from, in spite of how difficult it was at times. I still don't consider technology or animation to be a strong suit of mine. Still, looking back, I can say that I dabbled in virtual reality and can do some aspects of it. For my final project in Unity, I decided to create a dreamscape within a subconscious. It was such...

Final Project – Prasannna Kulkarni

Completed the final project! This was some tough work and a lot of fun. The hardest part was not being able to do what you are visualizing. Things are not always easy. But in the end I was able to whatever I had envisioned.   This is story of Shiva, the space explorer taking place in 3333 AD. Recently there was a white hole (opposite to black hole, instead of pulling everything in;white hole throws stuff out) that appeared over skies of the planet PK300 in Andromeda Galaxy. This sparked...

Independent Learning: Slay the Dragon

For my VR class' independent learning requirement, I read the book "Slay the Dragon: Writing Great Videos Games" by Robert Denton Bryant and Keith Giglio. I was intrigued by the book because I had always wondered how video games were written. This semester, I had gained experience in writing for journalistic purposes, such as feature writing, profile writing, and critical writing. I had even read a screenwriting book a few summers ago. But the art of writing for video games was foreign to me. The more I thought about it,...

Tips On Shooting with 360 Degree Video

I recently took the Go Pro rig out for a video shoot and learned a lot about the shooting process. I encountered a lot of problems, and I think this quick list will help anyone who is trying to shoot, especially if it’s your first time.   Charge all the batteries before you leave I had to charge the batteries multiple times while in the field and having had them at full life before leaving may have alleviated this. It took me more time to charge them than it did...

Assignment 6- Flavin

Completing Assignment 6 was relatively simple.  In order to make sure I did the job correctly, I went on YouTube and found some simple, short tutorials on how to attach sound to a specific object in Unity.  For all of my assignments, I have been building off of the Campfire assignment from weeks ago.  The Mixamo character and my 3D model were added in subsequent assignments.  Because the campfire is still in this Unity project, I decided to add the sound effect of a campfire.  So I went on Soundcloud...
