Assignment 5 – Unity Scene

This is the first scene I've created in Unity.  It was definitely a lot more challenging than I expected.  As you watch the video, you walk through a campsite on the side of a mountain.  There are two tents, a campfire and a USPS mailbox.  I added that in there just for fun because that is probably the last place you would expect a mailbox to be.  Who would come all the way over there to pick up the mail? I added in a special sky effect to make it...

Assignment 4 – Anna Leach

For our second iteration of the video, we made changes which helped adapt and refine the vision of the project. The most obvious change was the text. The facts elevate the project by giving it a purpose; instead of a random simulation, it now can serve as an educational PSA or tool. Small tweaks like smoother transitions and patching the nadir hole, refining the project further. I was present and assisted in the shoots as well as giving feedback on Premier edits, however, the bulk of my involvement was in...

Assignment 4: Improving Crouse Bell Tower 360 Video

This week my team and I finally got to go to the top of the Crouse Bell tower to get our interior shots. As the Executive Producer of this project, I was able to get in contact with a Chimemaster and schedule time to have her play for us. It was an amazing experience going up to the bells. I was on set for both of our shoots (exterior last week and interior in the tower this past weekend). My job on set was dealing with the cameras, syncing them,...

Assignment 4

Well there was many learning outcomes from this project. I think our team gained a lot from the learn through iteration approach. Take 1: We recorded the Dance team at Manley Field House. We found out that one of the cameras was corrupt and ended up not using the shoot because our preparation wasn't to par on the rig. We thought everything was good to go but could say we rushed the preparation step a bit. Rule 1: Always be Charging haha. Take 2: We received access to the Dance Team...

Assignment 2: 360 Video Pitch by Sharon

Gone are the days when people would like to spend a whole night to watch TV. How fast all those technologies have been changing the world! Virtual reality is just about to take us all to a brand new world. The most compelling part of virtual reality is to transport one’s perspective to another. So how about look at the place we live in again in a bird’s eye? Syracuse is a cozy city, which we are already familiar with. However, have you ever imagined how the city would look...

My first VR Experience

Quite the experience and I can see the many applications VR has. I think that making there is an interesting offset of the somewhat stationary limitations of VR. On one hand it confines you but the positive side of that is it lets you get fully immersed into the experience. One thing I think will be interesting to tackle is how we cue to follow the storyline through framing without letting their mind run wild in the program and missing content/experience. In 2D the director of movies have constraints but...

Independent Learning – Nguyen

I was very new to VR and 360 video prior to our class so I had a lot to learn and catch up on during the course of this semester. I spent a good amount of my time on Lynda.com learning various tutorials on the functionality of the GoPros. As a graduate student in the Multimedia, Photography, & Design program I needed to familiarize myself with the GoPros. I do not own a GoPro so I had to learn how to navigate and operate them for our assignments and simply...

Independent Learning – Kaileigh Woodruff

For my independent learning assignment I completed the ZBrush 4 Essential Training from lynda.com. 3D modeling and sculpting aren't my strong points but while watching the lesson I realized the possibilities and importance of programs like unity, ZBrush, etc. Without these programs the VR experiences that we looked at throughout the semester whether that be the "Use of Force", "Kiya" or any other production would simply not be possible. 3D modeling and sculpting programs allow things to be built that we may not have access to capturing with video/photo or...

Independent learning: Shumin Lai

My final project is filming a 360 video, so I came across some problem in the stitching process. When I stitched the video, I found out that one frame was in the wrong place and under the other frames. But when I dragged it in the correct area, it did not matched with other frames. So I opened the auto pano giga and tried to edit it. Unfortunately, it did not work even if I clicked the ghosting area with some green dots. Then, I googled it and watched some...

Independent Learning- Bulbul

What I loved so much about this class was how much learning you could do in your own time. Whether it be learning unity on your laptop or trying out VR apps in the innovation lab, it was totally when you wanted it. I am a firm believer that you work best when YOU WANT to work and not when you're forced to. The independent learning promoted this self driven attitude. One book that contributed highly to my learning was Ready Player One. I read the book along with the class and...
