For my Independent study, I decided to learn something about the Unity Script Language. During Unity studying experience, I encountered some problems that I solved with java script. I thought it was a pretty useful tool, so that I decided to learn something more. It actually also helped me to finish one of the assignments, which required us to embed sounds in when a particular action happened. Coming from a TV & film background, I have dealt with art my whole life. I know that coding is a rather important technique...
For my final project, I did a 360 Video at the biology department in Syracuse University. I have always been curious about what the life of a scientist is since I am majoring in art. It is like a totally different world to me. Therefore, I think it is interesting to film some behind-the-scene stories in a science laboratory, and show viewers some new knowledge they usually don't get to know in daily life. I contacted Yao Xiao, one of the PhD students from the biology department, and asked for...

I created a fantasy-like scene which has a whale in space in this project. I tried to trigger the whale to move using another object: the cube. When you get close to the cube, the whale swims; when you leave the cube, the whale dies. You can hear two different sounds when entering and exiting the collider. I definitely encountered a lot of problems when doing this project, especially in terms of the audio. We did not learn how to trigger audio in class, so I searched across Youtube to...

For this assignment, I decided to film the "Choral Collage" Night at the Setnor Auditorium because it was an important event on campus that fits the style of The New York Times Daily 360. I also believe that a concert in 360 style will bring audience great visual and audial experience. The event featured several choirs, from University Singers to Oratorio Society, showcasing the unbelievable power music had that brought everyone together. The obstacle I had during the filming process is that it was a live concert. As a result, it was...
Assignment 6: Post-industrial Unity Scene

What I tried with Unity this time is to build a post-industrial scene. With the old flat cars, the pipes, the barrels and boxes I downloaded from the asset store, the set is like a deserted "no-man land" that is good for an adventure story. Originally, I tried to use more assets, like some rocks and wooden bridge. However, like professor mentioned in class, a bunch of red alarms reminding me something was wrong did occur, like "materials need to be regenerated", and some assets did not seem to fit this version...

Initially, our topic was 360 thriller vdo. We filmed it along the apartment corridor and a dark apartment room where we had a fake ghost jumping out at the end. However, during post-production, we realized that the program could not identify different shots and the stitch came out not well. Therefore, we decided to reshoot with a whole new topic during daytime and with lots of lights. We decided to do a 360 video of the dance rehearsal that SU Freestyle Squad prepared for Chinese Spring Festival Gala. The dance...

360 Video Pitch My 360 Video story is about “journey towards home alone”. Its aim is to combine the experiences of room escape games and suspense/thriller movies. The audience can experience the mysterious story through VR, and it will feel real because the video is shot in real places, unlike online games. SCENE/LIGHTING/AUDIO I’m going to start my first scene at night, outside. The camera will be set at an average human height to imitate audience’s eyes. The place should be a dark, quiet country road with different kinds of...
