Slay the Dragon was a particularly interesting read, mainly due in part to the fact that it really hit home on the idea of story driven titles, at least for me. There are a lot of obvious rules to making a great video game, but these rules can be overlooked and taken for granted unless one pays close attention. I learned that the characters drive the story, no matter what type of game--whether it's a first person shooter, fantasy RPG, survival/horror, etc. Characters and story give the player something they can invest...
Newhouse has a rich history of innovation, and we set out to capture the history of our college through the lens of innovators. We weren’t exactly sure how to do this at the outset, but bringing Carla on to help us on the storytelling front was huge. We gravitated towards singular events that could help to illuminate a particular aspect of Newhouse’s past; for instance, LBJ’s Gulf of Tonkin Speech as an introduction of sorts for Newhouse I. Aside from ironing out our storytelling problems, we faced technical difficulties...
(wasn't sure I had to post this since the group is all posting the same thing but I guess I should) Newhouse Innovation and Invention Group Project Our project seeks to frame the world of Newhouse through the lens of innovation. Over the years the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications has been an important part in driving the growth of the media. Lyndon B. Johnson gave his Gulf of Tonkin speech at the commemoration of Newhouse 1. Great newscasters and entertainers like Regis Philbin graduated from the school...
Assignment 7 was extremely challenging, but, armed with the knowledge I had to catch up on after missing class when we went over how to do assignment 6, I was able to create a simple desert deer man scene with a rad character I downloaded from Mixamo. Using a capsule as the trigger, I went through a 3-state loop, whereupon when I moved into the capsule, by deer monster automatically moved toward the capsule to me. When I exited, he immediately moved to another spot very close to where he...

After a battle of wills with technology, I have successfully completed assignment 5...and I have to say, it was a lot cooler and more rewarding than I ever thought it would be. Just when I was finally starting to grasp 360 video, we were moving on to something else and I felt lost early on, having had no experience with Unity prior to this assignment. I really enjoyed getting the hang of using the controls, and adding my own touch to the piece. My only regret is that I was...

General Idea: I want to capture the essence of either daily life or the night life here in Syracuse. Maybe I choose a day where a special event is happening on campus, or a night where there is a basketball game, etc. Either way, I'd like to get a bird's eye view of the city in which we live. The Scene: More to come later when I discuss safety, but the setting of the video will be from on top of the Syracuse water tower that students often frequent. I'd...

Late post, but I was finally granted access into the system after WordPress gave me the runaround for a minute since I registered for the class late... Experimenting with all VR technology in the lab was mind blowing for me. I guess I should preface all this by saying that going into this class, I'd heard things from my friends about Oculus Rift and the HTC 1, Google Cardboard and the ever-changing nature of how we interact with multimedia and tell our stories...but I never really had taken the time...
