While Unity took some time to learn, Playmaker took my time, played with it, and then refused to give it back. The first class we had, Playmaker wasn't as hard to follow as originally learning Unity--there were less things to create and simple rules. But that's where the easy part ends. After discovering the plethora of actions available for all Unity objects, and then the multitude of states required to make these simple actions possible, I soon admired the animators and video game creators who had to do this for each meticulous detail in their content. On a basic level, Playmaker has easy steps to follow, but when you add imagination and a story, Playmaker becomes overwhelming for the mind.
Luckily, I decided that I was going to add a moving object to my previous Unity scene, "Dino Jam" , providing structure to my bounding imagination. I knew that I wanted to add something to the water in my scene, so I opted for a fishing boat on the water. Unfortunately, while attempting to move my boat, I discovered that I ran into issues when attempting to assign a target object that wasn't a simple shape. While I wanted to move my fishing boat between two buoys, I kept getting a message about the "mouse down" option. Apparently, Unity couldn't find the right owner of which to assign a mouse click. In the end, I decided to use the training we got with simple cubes, and hid them under water. When my boat was directed to one cube, it just glided above both the cubes and the water. I added buoys for aesthetic and was satisfied with what I created.
For our next assignment, I already added in a Mixamo character with an action. I hope to add another Mixamo character and find a way to move them from one area to another. I'd also like to add sounds to the fishing boat. My greatest achievement was adding the parody Jurassic Park theme song, so I'm only hoping that I can add more fun audio.
