BEACH SCENE USING UNITY
I really enjoyed my abroad experience in Barbados and I'm in love with the beach so I created a beach scene using Unity!
Successes and FailuresÂ
Some of the things I tried were moving the objects I added to the scene to the plain once they ended up "in the sky" or far away from the plain. This was a very complicated process for me trying to change the perspective and move the objects so I ended up deleted the objects from "the sky" and replacing the whales and trees. It was easier to start over than to try and fix it because I clicked around too much. One mistake that I made while creating this scene was working on edits while on play mode. I created a beautiful beach with a lot of different aspects and when I went back to the regular screen it was all gone. Lesson learned. A major suggestion is thinking about all the assets you need ahead of time and seeing if there's access to some of the things you may need. I wanted to add so many things to the scene but due to pricing I was unable to.
I attempted adding audio to one of the whales and it worked out only at a scale ranging from 360-500. I made sure all the settings aligned as well and I still encountered this issue throughout the ending stage of this project. Questions:
How do you fix the audio issue? Did the size of the whale effect the scale range for the audio?
How do we add animation to objects in the scene? (It would be cool to have the palm trees swaying in the wind)
How should we go about selecting skyboxes? Some of them cause the program to crash and although everything was saved Unity continues to try and download the file.
Beyond the Scene
Thinking about the storytelling aspect of this scene, in an idea world there would be people on the beach and boats in the water. Visually the palm trees would be swaying and you could hear different conversations of the beachgoers as you get within their range. I would also add fish, hammocks, beach balls, sandcastles, and even monkeys hanging in the huge trees in the background. This scene would describe my time abroad in Barbados and include different things that showcase the beautiful island and beaches. Moving through the seen the user can interact in the scene and probably end up in a game of beach volleyball. There would be a lot of movement going on within the scene from the characters and objects. These elements would be discovered by the experiencer as they move throughout the scene. I think that audio plays a huge role in bringing the whole scene together and telling a story.
Overall, I really enjoyed the challenge of creating this scene. It takes a lot of energy and patience. The system crashed multiple times but I was able to roll with the punches and achieve this final product.
I created a beach scene using Unity! My time abroad in Barbados definitely served as my inspiration. Check it out! #vrstorytellinghttps://t.co/x0X9yWXn6F
