Assignment 2: 360 Video Pitch Revised

Assignment 2: 360 Video Pitch Revised

The Warehouse:

I would like to propose a 360 video inside the warehouse near Syracuse Armory Square.  There's not a lot of videos about what goes behind the scenes in design, much of videos shown online are either in documentaries, advertisements, or in articles. Its a good insight on how designers work but its not enough. It  doesn't really show the emotional side of it, the joy, the stress, and the frustration that goes into get the right design, especially when students are working in groups. I wanted to give an insight into the life of designers in the warehouse, how each design; fashion, interior, industrial, and commercial tackle each of their design issues, and the tools and techniques develop the solutions for each issue. I'd also want to show people what the environment is like at night, especially from 10:00 to midnight, when final projects are due.

The first scene would be in the woodshop, a fairly small to average size room on the first floor of the warehouse. The camera would be placed near the work benches, usually at a time where there aren't a lot of students using the woodshop. The camera would be far to mid range from the subjects, so movements would be far from the camera. I would want to camera to be above 7 feet and upside down so that it acts as a security footage of the woodshop. The alternative would be to place the camera at an average human height to simulate the feeling of being one of the observers overseeing the workshop. Much of the lighting would from indoor lights, however in other scenes feature classrooms or studio rooms there will be a combine mixture of outdoor and indoor lighting.

The story would most likely go from the 1st floor to the top floor, showcasing each design studio, and  studio classrooms that the students would attend. For the studio scenes, I would most likely show student doing group work, in the computer lab or in the corner overlooking the studio space itself. The camera would most likely be placed on a chair or human height to simulate a design student being involved in discussion or doing observation. I feel that it would allow the audience to feel like they actively participating in the discussion. I would do the same for studio classes, to give an insight as to how professors would teach their students. I'd also want to show people what the environment is like at night, especially from 10:00 to midnight, when final projects are due, where tension is the most highest in the warehouse.

Since all the scenes would be indoors the 360 camera would be relatively safe from being stolen. The issues would be placing the camera in the woodshop, if there are too many students operating in the room it would be hard to place the camera without people knocking it over.

Revised Idea:

As a team we decided since there was not a football game to go ahead and 360 capture the SU dance team. We can see a dance routine in unison and instead of seeing them from the stands to be immersed into the routine by having the team form up completely around the camera to see just how immersed the viewer would be. Another thing  we wanted to find out is how much more engaging would this immersion be compared to actually seeing their routine at a sporting event. Is this a new way of experiencing content at a live physical location. Thinking about what the people are missing in the nose bleed section...The applications are vast if the experience is more valuable.

The team was great and everyone had a creative part in this project. The learning experience was also very informative ABC always be charging!! Thank you Cameron, Michael, Dylan, Johnny.
