My job: Director

Early preparation:

We had several meetings on what kind of video do we really want to film. At first, we are trying to make a creepy family dinner movie. However, when it comes to finding actors and actresses, things got really difficult. We might not able to find perfect actors and actresses for the story. Instead, we changed this to a roommate finding movie. Also, the most parts we thought of includes camera angles and lighting. We agree that it might be a good idea to experience the whole story in a weird way which will benefit from 360 videos. We ended up with chips on a plate and us successfully eliminate the bracket.

My job also includes material preparation. Since we plan to do a serial killing story, I thought it would be a good idea that we put some actual flesh on the table. I bought some fresh pork bones, some pork guts, and some pork tongues. The original plan was to have our actors eat some pig tongue but since they are having a hard time with it (I cooked them and Lenny said it tastes good) we ended up using it as decorations.

Filming

We come up with a whole story and since we have already come up with our camera angles, the filming process is quite smooth. My job at the scene is to check camera angles and give advice to acting. Thanks a lot to my group members and they are the best actors.

Editing

We set up some lights to focus on characters so that cause us some trouble when editing because the lights are cold while other scenes are warm. My job is to adjust colors to make them as consistent as possible. Also, we decided to put some music in the background to make it even creepier. We had a lot of fun editing this film.

What I have learned

When we looked at the result, we realize that ask the audience to constantly move their heads may be a bad idea. If the story is too long, they might get exhausted to it and get out. Also, we run into some pace problems as well. It works in regular films but may not be suitable for 360 videos. Last but not least, the audio is not as good as we think it is. We might want better audio capturing devices in the future.
