Assignment 2: 360 Video Pitch

Concept:

It is the post-human architecture that we are entering. In the digital age, we will see our surroundings not through the naked eyes, but through a layer of digital information embedded and visualized by technologies. Spaces, buildings and cities will be perceived through camera lens, sensor, or scanner. They identify a scene or an object by searching for predefined relationships, patterns or geometries. The physical existence of signage and billboard will no longer be necessary. In this context, we need to start imagining a new design that can be understood by both human and machine. For this project, I want to create a narrative explaining how augmented reality (AR) technology changes the relationship between signage and building.

The story will be told in a VR environment through first person perspective.

Main events:

Subject located in Times Square

  • Attributes:

-A 360 scene of Times Square

-Fixed position

-Best vantage point: Intersection between Broadway and 7th Ave

  • Scene 1:

Subject standing at the intersection between Broadway and 7th Ave looking around. The scene captures the overwhelming amount of flashy digital and neon billboards.

Subject exploring Times Square

  • Attributes:

-3D environment made in Unity

-Interactive

  • Scene 2:

Subject walking towards One Times Square

  • Scene 3:

One Time Square structure transforming throughout the years:

1945, 1982, 2017, 20xx (20xx is when the new building form that is compatible with AR devices comes along)

  • Scene 4:

Augmented Ads being projected onto the 20xx version of One Times Square as the subject walks around the building.
