Before last Wednesday's class I had never experienced virtual reality before. I had heard about it but never have I used any of the vr technology first hand. When were were in the innovation lab I used my cardboard kit to preview the movie "The Displaced" on the New York Times app. I only got to watch about 5 to 10 minutes of the video before we had to move on with class. But within that short time period I was a little sick to my stomach. I was also confused as to whether or not I should be moving around to see more of the movie. Do you sit still and the video will show you what you need to see or should you actually move with it? Within the movie there were subtitles that would appear, but I never knew where they were going to appear, so half of the time I couldn't fully read them. Another observation that I found was that sometimes the picture was blurry. This didn't really bother me but it did just enough that I constantly noticed it. Another thing that I found was that I had the urge to lay down while I was viewing the movie. I don't know why that was or if it is normal but I had to stop myself from laying down in the lab (probably not the best class etiquette). I'm really excited for next week and the rest of the semester. I hope to use different vr technology and understand this emerging technology a lot more.
All the best,
Kaileigh
