- Grad students, register for your extra project. Fill out this form.
11:05-11:40: Photogrammetry
- The magic: if you have 30 photos of any object from different angles, software can interpolate 3D data! See examples of this in the Roman Forum and the old city of Dubrovnik.
- Overview of how it works in this Autodesk video.
- See an Emblematic Group employee 3D image a tank.
- Desktop software: Autodesk Remake (so-so), Agisoft Photoscan (better). (If you use Autodesk, be sure to get a free Autodesk for Education account first).
- Apps: Scann3D (Android), Trnio (iOS).
- Need buildings? Try this method in Google Earth.
- A couple of student projects: photogrammetry for art, for history, and for museums.
- Sketchfab has a good tutorial.
11:40-12:20: Let's make some models!
- Download Trnio or Scann3D and scan an object.
- Next assignment, Assignment 8, is to create a 3D model using one of these apps and upload it to Sketchfab and view in Cardboard.
- You can also add it to a Unity scene. BONUS, make a model today and put it into Unity, and we can try to view it in the Oculus in the Innovation Lab.
